The Securement Assistance For Everyone (S.A.F.E.) program is a free and voluntary program designed to provide better securement for people using mobility devices on public transportation. The program is meant to ensure that mobility devices are secured properly in the safest place to minimize injury and damage. The transit operator will attach the vehicle\u2019s securement system to the marked areas of your mobility device where the straps on the device are placed and the vehicle\u2019s securement system will be tightened. Securement is mandatory, however, straps are not mandatory and riders cannot be refused transportation if they do not have them. To make an appointment to have straps or tape installed on your mobility device, please call (702) 676-1767 or TDD (702) 676-1834.<\/p>\n<\/div>
<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/i><\/div>Transit Watch<\/h2><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>The Transit Watch campaign is a nationwide safety and security awareness program designed to encourage the active participation of transit passengers and employees in working together to maintain a safe transit environment. The campaign provides information and instructions to transit passengers and employees so that they know what to do and who to contact in the event of an emergency in a transit setting. Transit Watch invites riders and employees to be the \u201ceyes and ears\u201d of their local transit system. Transit Watch was developed by the U.S. Department of Transportation\u2019s Federal Transit Administration (FTA) in partnership with the American Public Transportation Association (APTA), the Community Transportation Association of America (CTAA), the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security\u2019s Transportation Security Administration (TSA).<\/p>\n
\nBe on the alert for suspicious situations:

If you spot an unattended package, look for the following:<\/p>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n
\n- Placement in an out-of-the-way location;<\/li>\n
- Individuals in the act of abandoning the package and hastily departing the area;<\/li>\n
- Unusual attached batteries, wires, tanks, bottles or bags that might contain chemicals;<\/li>\n
- An attached message;<\/li>\n
- Nearby individuals showing signs of illness or distress; and<\/li>\n
- A suspicious cloud, mist, gas, vapor, odor or seeping fluid.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
If you spot any suspicious individuals engaged in questionable activity, look for the following:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- Visible signs of nervousness;<\/li>\n
- Excessive sweating;<\/li>\n
- Sprayer bottles or aerosol canisters; and<\/li>\n
- Inappropriate clothing that is excessively baggy or too heavy in warm weather.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Human trafficking is a form of modern slavery that occurs across the globe. The National Human Trafficking Hotline ranks Nevada as 13th<\/sup> in number of trafficking cases reported.<\/p>\nTraffickers rely on the transportation industry in every phase of human trafficking, from recruitment to the delivery of victims to buyers. Public transit agencies may come in contact with victims on a regular basis, which is why we applied for and received the Federal Transit Agency \u2018s (FTA) \u201cInnovations in Transit Public Safety\u201d grant to support efforts in combatting human trafficking.<\/p>\n
All RTC front-line employees, transit operators and security officers are trained to help identify human trafficking victims and assist. The program includes partnerships with the University of Nevada, Las Vegas to evaluate the training, and FirstMed Health & Wellness<\/a> to provide comprehensive wrap-around relief services once a victim is identified.<\/p>\nThe RTC kicked off an awareness campaign in January 2021 for National Slavery & Human Trafficking Prevention Month which is featured across the valley\u2019s transit stops and hubs, inside and outside of buses, on digital billboards and on social media platforms.<\/p>\n
