LAS<\/em> VEGAS<\/em> \u2013 The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) will receive $1.68 million in federal funding from the Federal Highway Administration\u2019s Safe Streets for All grant program to develop an action plan to increase safety for all roadway users. This funding will allow the RTC to work with local jurisdictions, safety experts, and community members to improve roadway safety throughout Southern Nevada.<\/p>\r\n

The RTC, in partnership with the Nevada Department of Transportation, Clark County and the Cities of Las Vegas, Henderson, North Las Vegas, Boulder City and Mesquite, will use the grant to develop safety solutions in high-crash locations. With 128 traffic deaths in Clark County last year, the goal is to reduce serious vehicle crashes by identifying and solving for the most significant safety factors, including speed, roadway width and lighting.<\/p>\r\n

\u201cThe RTC is incredibly grateful for this federal funding that aims to do just what it says \u2013 create safe streets for all. I have long supported Complete Streets projects to help address roadway safety, and this funding will help our planners, engineers and community members implement those elements as an action plan to reduce traffic fatalities throughout our valley,\u201d said Clark County Commissioner and RTC Vice Chairman Justin Jones. \u201cWe couldn\u2019t do what we do without the continued support of our federal delegation, who work tirelessly to assist the RTC in its efforts to provide safe, equitable transportation for Southern Nevada.\u201d<\/p>\r\n

In addition to collecting and analyzing data, researching nationwide best practices, and providing technical reviews, the RTC and its partners will implement a robust community engagement effort to gather insights from those who walk, bike,\u00a0 drive, and use transit. The action plan is expected to take 18-24 months to complete and will include an in-depth assessment of roadway safety impacts.<\/p>\r\n
