In fact, children are\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.safekids.org\/halloween\">more than twice as likely<\/a>\u00a0to be hit by a car on Halloween than on any other day of the year.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>Sharing the road shouldn\u2019t be scary. The RTC is sharing five tips for a safe and happy Halloween for all:<\/p>\r\n<ol>\r\n\t<li>On Halloween there will likely be more pedestrians on the roads and in places where they are not expected. <strong><em>Slower speeds save lives.<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\r\n\t<li><strong><em>Stay alert<\/em><\/strong> for pedestrians who may walk out from between parked cars or behind shrubbery. Make sure to <strong><em>stop and wait<\/em><\/strong> for them to make it onto a sidewalk before proceeding.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>A <strong><em>responsible adult<\/em><\/strong> should accompany young children making their neighborhood rounds. If your older children are going alone, <strong><em>plan and review a route<\/em><\/strong> acceptable to you.<\/li>\r\n\t<li><strong><em>Light up the night!<\/em><\/strong> Trick-or-treaters should carry glow sticks or flashlights, use reflective tape or stickers on costumes and bags, and wear light colors to help kids see and be seen by drivers.<\/li>\r\n\t<li><strong><em>Don\u2019t be a distracted driver.<\/em><\/strong> Put down your phone, save the candy for later and focus on the road, especially in high-traffic areas.<\/li>\r\n<\/ol>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Halloween is upon us and with many people out celebrating this weekend, traffic safety should be a top priority when trick-or-treating with your children.
