{"id":8034,"date":"2022-04-06T08:26:16","date_gmt":"2022-04-06T15:26:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rtcsnv.com\/news\/?p=8034"},"modified":"2022-04-06T08:26:16","modified_gmt":"2022-04-06T15:26:16","slug":"its-distracted-driving-month-eliminate-the-distractions-and-just-drive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rtc.staging.snvhost.net\/news\/its-distracted-driving-month-eliminate-the-distractions-and-just-drive\/","title":{"rendered":"It\u2019s Distracted Driving Month \u2013 Eliminate the distractions and just drive!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The National Safety Council estimates that on a typical day, eight people are killed and hundreds more injured in distracted driving crashes. <strong>Eight people per day!<\/strong> Distracted Driving Month, recognized each April, is the perfect time to remind drivers of common distractions and how to avoid them.<\/p>\r\n<p>Below are a few simple ways to prep for a safe, distraction-free drive:<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>Prepare for your ride. Before departing, make any necessary adjustments to your mirrors and seat, and map out your journey using tools such as GPS.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Don\u2019t use your mobile phone while driving. Enable the \u2018do not disturb\u2019 function and put it out of reach.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Don\u2019t multitask! Applying makeup, shaving, eating, or using your vehicle\u2019s dashboard touch screen are all extremely dangerous when you\u2019re behind the wheel. Plan ahead and build more time into your schedule so you don\u2019t engage in these activities while driving.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Check on young children and pets before your commute.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>On longer drives, plan breaks to check messages and texts.<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Be a defensive driver! Even if you free yourself from distractions, that doesn\u2019t mean that other drivers will.
