\r\nLAS VEGAS<\/strong> \u2013 Relief may be within reach for commuters across the Las Vegas Valley facing record fuel prices. Club Ride, a free program of the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC), provides tools to help make it easier to use different modes of transportation that provide environmental benefits and put money back in commuters\u2019 wallets.<\/p>\r\n

This Earth Month, the RTC encourages Southern Nevadans to rethink their commute and utilize free Club Ride tools that make it easier than ever to travel to work by taking transit, carpooling, biking, walking and more. To encourage commuters to \u00a0make the switch, through April 30, those who sign up for the RTC Club Ride program will receive free carpool match reports, 30 days of free RTC Bike Share or 14 days of free public transit, including RTC-OnDemand services!<\/p>\r\n

\u201cWe know that many drivers are feeling the pain at the pump with rising gas prices, and we understand the financial burden that can place on many in our community,\u201d said M.J. Maynard, RTC chief executive officer. \u201cOur hope is that by extending these free services, we are able to provide some relief to Southern Nevadans during this time, while simultaneously educating them about the cost-effective options they have to travel throughout the valley.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\r\n

Club Ride is a FREE, employer-based program that provides resources to people who are interested in trying different modes of transportation such as riding transit, carpooling, walking, bicycling and telecommuting. In an effort to improve air quality and decrease congestion, participants are rewarded for using different transportation modes other than driving alone in their car.<\/p>\r\n

In addition to the giveaways offered in April, those who report their alternative commutes via the Club Ride website<\/a> or mobile app have multiple chances to win prizes on a monthly basis. This month, Club Ride will also give away two $50 gas gift cards each week to its members.<\/p>\r\n

JOIN A CARPOOL<\/strong>
\r\nClub Ride provides a carpool matching service and works directly with more than 330 employers valley-wide to develop and facilitate this program. For those who join Club Ride and are interested in carpooling, Club Ride staff finds others in the valley who live and work near each other to facilitate carpooling. And to offer participants confidence in carpooling, RTC has an emergency ride program for enrollees who suddenly find themselves without a carpool ride home.<\/p>\r\n

HOP ON TRANSIT<\/strong>
\r\nFor just $2 per ride, or $5 per day, transit is an affordable alternative to driving a personal vehicle. RTC transit offers 39 routes throughout the valley\u00a0<\/strong>with many of them running every 30 minutes or less, 24 hours a day. A variety of affordable transit passes are available, including discounted passes for seniors, veterans and students, and customers can plan their routes and pay their fare easily with the\u00a0rideRTC mobile app.\u00a0Additionally, a new service, RTC-OnDemand<\/a>,<\/u> offers a shared-ride, on-demand transit service in two parts of the valley that lack transit service.<\/p>\r\n

RIDE A BIKE
\r\n<\/strong>Bicycling is another popular commute alternative that offers health benefits as well. In fact, all RTC transit vehicles are equipped with bike racks, making it easy to combine transit and bicycle trips. Additionally, the RTC\u2019s popular bike share program offers an easy and affordable way to rent bicycles by offering 200 classic and electric bicycles at 20 stations throughout downtown Las Vegas. A variety of passes ranging from daily to annual is available. A map of bike stations and information on passes can be found on the Bike Share website<\/a>.<\/p>\r\n

WORK FROM HOME OR COMPRESS YOUR WORK WEEK
\r\n<\/strong>Those who avoid commuting by working from home or compressing their work schedule into fewer days are also doing their part for air quality and traffic congestion and are eligible to be rewarded for monthly prizes by reporting their work-from-home commute or compressed work schedule.<\/p>\r\n
