It\u2019s safe, affordable, efficient, and better for the environment. As with any travel, when heading out at night, taking a few extra precautions can help keep your trip safe and enjoyable. Here are a few tips to follow when riding at night.<\/p>\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li><strong>Know Your Schedule:<\/strong> Don&#8217;t get to a stop too early. Try using the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rtcsnv.com\/ways-to-travel\/schedules-maps\/mobile-apps\/\">rideRTC<\/a> app to get information on real-time bus arrivals, departures and crowding. It also includes the RTC Transit Watch, an easy way for riders to communicate suspicious activity.<\/li>\r\n\t<li><strong>Be situationally aware:<\/strong> Wear only one headphone, be aware of your surroundings, and if something doesn\u2019t seem right, alert the driver or security.<\/li>\r\n\t<li><strong>Check In:<\/strong> Call or text someone with your current location and ETA every once in a while so they know where you were most recently and when to expect you to arrive.<\/li>\r\n\t<li><strong>Take a Direct Route:<\/strong> If possible, take a single route to your destination.<\/li>\r\n\t<li><strong>Charge Your Phone Before You Go:<\/strong> A fully charged battery can make a difference if an emergency occurs; and especially if you have your transit pass on your phone.<\/li>\r\n\t<li><strong>Get on and off in well-lit areas.<\/strong> The RTC has more than 1,400 bus shelters with enhanced lighting that creates a safer environment and increases visibility from the street.<\/li>\r\n\t<li><strong>Be Seen:<\/strong> Your ride will likely include a walk to or from your bus stop.
