They join about 500 NIW affiliates nationwide raising awareness about the foundational role infrastructure plays in building and ensuring the economic vibrancy of communities.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u><br \/>\nSchedule of events<\/u><\/strong>:\u00a0<em>(media are invited to attend all events)<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Monday, May 13, 7:30 to 10 a.m.:<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>Western Summit<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>hosted by the RTC and National Infrastructure Week, at the Springs Preserve, 333 S. Valley View Blvd., Las Vegas<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Southern Nevada was recognized and selected by the NIW organization to host the Western Summit this year, showcasing how the nation\u2019s future will be shaped by the infrastructure choices we make today. There will be four summits held throughout the nation during the week and Las Vegas will be the host city to kick off the festivities on Monday. With a theme of \u201cTechnology and Innovation: The New Infrastructure of Tomorrow,\u201d Southern Nevada will kick off the event with a line-up of speakers including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>S. Department of Transportation Deputy Assistant Secretary of Transportation for Aviation and International Affairs David Short<\/li>\n<li>Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) Director Kristina Swallow<\/li>\n<li>Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITS America) President Shailen Bhatt will moderate a panel of national leaders, including Roger Millar, Washington State Department of Transportation Secretary; Dr. Mahmud Farooque, ASU School for the Future of Innovation in Society Associate Professor; and others who will discuss how smart communities, technology and innovation are solving today\u2019s transportation challenges.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nWednesday, May 15, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.: Careers in Motion | Workforce of Tomorrow<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>in the Dallas Ballroom at Texas Station Hotel and Casino, 2101 Texas Star Lane, North Las Vegas<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Targeted towards those just starting their careers as well as unemployed and underemployed job seekers, the event features opportunities to meet one-on-one with representatives from various training programs, labor unions and employers as well as limited conditional on-site hiring. Attendees will hear from Guy Martin of Martin-Harris Construction and a panel of experts about what it takes to launch a career in the transportation, design, engineering and construction industries that are helping to build the region\u2019s infrastructure of tomorrow. Panelists include: Kristina Swallow, Director of Nevada Department of Transportation; Dr. Federico Zaragoza, President of the College of Southern Nevada; Jaime Cruz, Executive Director of Workforce Connections; Juan Mendez, President of M Con Inc.; and Mel Greene, Principal at KME Architects.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong><br \/>\nFriday, May 17: Latin Chamber of Commerce Small Business Expo<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>and Luncheon Discussion<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>at Suncoast Hotel and Casino, 9090 Alta Dr., Las Vegas<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Focused on \u201cClean Energy | Our Economy, Transportation and Future,\u201d this special event begins with a small business expo where local businesses will gain a better understanding of how to work with companies focused on building clean energy infrastructure. During the luncheon, guests will hear from U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen and Ray Fakhoury of Advanced Energy Economy, followed by a panel of local leaders on the importance of a clean energy economy and its role in social and economic development. Panelists include: Clark County Commissioner Justin Jones, RTC Chief Engineering and Technology Officer David Swallow, and representatives from the NV Energy and the Nevada Conservation League.<\/p>\n<p>Local NIW sponsors include NDOT, Atkins (design, engineering and project management), Metro Chamber of Commerce, Urban Chamber of Commerce, Latin Chamber of Commerce, NV Energy, Las Vegas Paving, Nevada Contractors Association, Nevada Conservation League, Keolis North America and Jacobs (engineering).
