Memorial Day weekend brings heavy traffic, transit holiday schedule and a chance to add some fun to your summer<\/em><\/p>\n

LAS VEGAS \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0As Memorial Day marks the unofficial start to the summer vacation season, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) is holding a social media challenge to win tickets to a local attraction. Travelers should also account for heavy traffic this weekend and that the public transportation system will be operating on a holiday (Sunday) schedule Monday, May 27.<\/p>\n

Many Southern Nevada summer destinations are accessible by transit, and the social media puzzle highlights one of these popular spots. Each person who guesses correctly will be entered into a drawing to win a family four pack of tickets to the mystery venue. The contest starts Friday, May 24 when the puzzle is posted on the RTC\u2019s social media platforms. Media organizations are encouraged to give a sneak peek by showing the image ahead of the post.<\/p>\n<\/div>

Residents should plan their Memorial Day weekend travel in advance, as heavy traffic is anticipated on I-15. Drivers should plan for traffic backups on I-15 southbound between Las Vegas and Primm on Monday, May 27 beginning at 7 a.m. and continuing into the early evening. The heaviest delays are expected between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.<\/p>\n

People flying out of town for the holiday weekend can park their vehicles at the one of the\u00a0RTC\u2019s park-and-ride locations<\/a>\u00a0for free and take transit to get to McCarran International Airport. McCarran offers courtesy shuttle service to transport passengers between Terminal 1 and Terminal 3.<\/p>\n
