LAS VEGAS \u2013\u00a0The\u00a0Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC)<\/a>\u00a0has formed new partnerships, along with renewing previous ones, with local businesses and organizations to help transit riders defeat the heat during its annual Summer Heat campaign. Donated water and sunscreen, as well as Lyft discounts, will help riders stay cool while traveling in the extreme Las Vegas summer heat.<\/p>\n

As temperatures rise, it is important for transit riders to understand the dangers associated with the extreme heat. RTC staff members will help riders stay hydrated by distributing donated bottled water at transit centers and the busiest bus stops throughout the summer, where a variety of other donated prizes will also be given away.<\/p>\n

Comprehensive Cancer Centers<\/a>\u00a0joins the campaign, donating free sunscreen to protect riders from the effects of the sun\u2019s powerful UV rays. Team members from Comprehensive Cancer Centers will be at outreach events to discuss safety with transit riders.<\/p>\n

Lyft<\/a>\u00a0is helping transit riders stay safe from the heat with discounted Lyft rides to avoid having to walk long distances in the heat to and from transit stops. New and existing users can use code\u00a0\u201cLYFTRTC\u201d\u00a0for $1 off 10 rides throughout the entire month of June. With more than 39 transit routes across the valley, riders can rely on transit for the bulk of the trip, but Lyft can provide the first and last mile service at a reduced rate.<\/p>\n

\nDonations are also being provided by other businesses, including\u00a0Mariana\u2019s Supermarkets<\/a>,\u00a0Three Square<\/a>,\u00a0Wet \u2018n\u2019 Wild<\/a>,\u00a0Cowabunga Bay<\/a>,\u00a0KISS by Monster Mini Golf<\/a>,\u00a0Twilight Zone by Monster Mini Golf<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Discovery Children\u2019s Museum<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The RTC reminds all transit riders to download the free\u00a0rideRTC app<\/a>\u00a0to track their bus and help minimize time spent waiting outside in the heat. Customers can also use rideRTC to plan trips and buy their passes.<\/p>\n
