LAS VEGAS <\/strong>\u2013 The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC)<\/a> received $128,624 in grant funding from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to educate the community about transportation options and available technology for a touchless transit experience. The FTA\u2019s Mobility for All grant will fund a mobile training lab to bring RTC mobility trainers and resources to members of the community, including veterans, persons with disabilities and low-income populations.<\/p>\r\n

The RTC opened its one-of-a-kind Mobility Training Center (MTC)<\/a> in 2016 to help train individuals, particularly those with disabilities, to navigate the bus system safely. While approximately 4,000 Southern Nevada residents have received training since the MTC opened, transportation to and from the facility can often be a burden for clients. The new mobile training lab will help the RTC meet our clients where they are and bring the training experience directly to them.<\/p>\r\n

\u201cWe are committed to helping our community access the resources and gain the skills they need to travel safely and independently,\u201d said MJ Maynard, RTC CEO. \u201cWe are incredibly thankful for our partners, supporters and the FTA for making this grant possible and we can\u2019t wait to take our mobility training program on the road and into neighborhoods and communities valley-wide.\u201d<\/p>\r\n

The RTC worked closely with our federal delegation and local organizations, including the Nevada Department of Vocational Rehabilitation, the Nevada Department of Employment Training and Rehabilitation (DETR), Workforce Connections and Opportunity Village, on the successful grant process.<\/p>\r\n

The project will cost nearly $200,000, with a 65% federal and 35% local funding split. The RTC will use an existing accessible RTC vehicle that will be equipped with workstations and operated by staff who will provide customers with the tools to travel efficiently and effectively throughout the greater Las Vegas area. The vehicle retrofit is expected to begin this October and be ready to deploy in March 2021.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
