{"id":4941,"date":"2020-06-11T12:30:48","date_gmt":"2020-06-11T19:30:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rtcsnv.com\/news\/?p=4941"},"modified":"2020-06-11T12:30:48","modified_gmt":"2020-06-11T19:30:48","slug":"fuel-for-thought-initial-fri-projects-completed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rtc.staging.snvhost.net\/news\/fuel-for-thought-initial-fri-projects-completed\/","title":{"rendered":"Fuel for Thought: Initial FRI projects completed"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Thanks to our community, all 225 roadway projects funded by the initial Fuel Revenue Indexing (FRI) program are completed. Since kicking off in 2014, the three-year FRI program has resulted in a $570 million infrastructure investment that created more than 7,300 jobs and put 78 local small business to work.<\/p>\r\n<p>As Southern Nevada emerged from the 2008 recession, the needs of our transportation infrastructure, that were put on hold due to lack of funding, demanded more attention. To cover a growing gap in funding, in 2013, Nevada passed legislation to tie motor vehicle fuel tax to inflation for a three-year period. The Clark County Board of Commissioners followed up and put that funding program in place from January 2014 through December 2016.<\/p>\r\n<p>Then, during the November 2016 election, Clark County residents voted to continue to tie fuel tax to the rate of inflation for an additional 10 years. The decade-long FRI program is expected to generate at least $2 billion in revenue to fund roadway projects.
