The RTC\u2019s award-winning and one-of-a-kind Mobility Training Center just observed its fourth year of operation in early January. Its mission: train Southern Nevadans with disabilities to confidently and safely use public transit and certify those eligible for paratransit service.<\/p>\r\n
Inside are two fixed-route buses, Las Vegas streetscapes with varied walking surfaces, traffic signals and ambient sound to replicate everyday commuting. There also is a fully functional apartment \u2013 Angela\u2019s House \u2013 a partnership with Blindconnect to train visually impaired residents to live independently.<\/p>\r\n
The RTC also partners with the Clark County School District for a mobility training program to teach students to use the fixed-route system. While these students are provided job skills training in school, the MTC teaches them how to get to their job on public transit.<\/p>\r\n
In short, the MTC has it all. So much so, that transportation agencies around the world have visited the 14,700 square-foot facility to gain insight for their mobility training programs. What\u2019s next for the MTC? Stay tuned.<\/p>\r\n
