The Clark County School District (CCSD) wanted to try something different to provide an alternative to the traditional school bus, especially for students who wanted to take up after-school activities but didn\u2019t have transportation.\u00a0To make the idea a reality, CCSD reached out to the RTC for help.<\/p>\r\n<p>That forged a partnership with the RTC and CCSD to provide free transit bus passes to eligible students\u00a0who sign up for the program.\u00a0Students can participate in the program, provided they are first eligible for CCSD transportation services.\u00a0 That means students must live more than two miles from their school.\u00a0 Once students sign up for the program, CCSD purchases passes from the RTC at a discounted rate and then gives the passes to students in the program.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>The free passes give students full access to all of RTC\u2019s routes, so they can use transit for safe and reliable transportation to get to and from school, but also anywhere else they may need to go.\u00a0 This opens doors for students who participate in extracurricular activities after school and may not have a ride home.\u00a0 Students with jobs can also use the bus pass to get to and from work.<\/p>\r\n<p>It didn\u2019t take long for the program to take off.\u00a0 Watch the video below to learn how the program\u2019s success is now spreading to a second campus.<\/p>\r\n<p><div class=\"video-shortcode\"><iframe class=\"lazyload\" title=\"CCSD and RTC team up for a new student transportation program\" width=\"1100\" height=\"619\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns%3D%27http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg%27%20width%3D%271100%27%20height%3D%27619%27%20viewBox%3D%270%200%201100%20619%27%3E%3Crect%20width%3D%271100%27%20height%3D%27619%27%20fill-opacity%3D%220%22%2F%3E%3C%2Fsvg%3E\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QUN6PEKH7rs?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div><\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new pilot program is helping students ride public transit to school\u2013 for free.
