LAS VEGAS \u2013<\/strong>\u00a0The\u00a0Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC)<\/a>\u00a0will offer\u00a0free rides<\/a> on all 39 fixed routes starting at 6 p.m. on New Year\u2019s Eve and ending at 9 a.m. on New Year\u2019s Day. Riders can simply board any fixed route vehicle without purchasing or presenting fare. The free rides extend to express services between\u00a0park-and-ride facilities<\/a>\u00a0and downtown Las Vegas.<\/p>\n

Riders should note and plan for extensive transit detours to be in place on New Year\u2019s Eve. Those celebrating New Year\u2019s Eve downtown can avoid the holiday traffic with RTC\u2019s express service. The Centennial Hills (7313 Grand Montecito Parkway) and Westcliff (25 S. Durango Drive) park-and-ride facilities feature express service to and from downtown Las Vegas with buses departing every 20 minutes via the Centennial Express (CX) and the Westcliff Airport Express (WAX) from 6 p.m. New Year\u2019s Eve to 4 a.m. New Year\u2019s Day.<\/p>\n

In addition to RTC\u2019s usual 13 24-hour routes, several other routes will operate at an extended or 24-hour service on New Year\u2019s Eve into New Year\u2019s Day, making much of the Las Vegas Valley accessible with 24-hour transit. Riders should also note that the RTC transit system will operate on alternate schedules during the upcoming Christmas and New Year\u2019s holidays. On Christmas Eve, Monday, Dec. 24, 2018, routes will operate on a Saturday schedule. Routes will operate on a Sunday schedule on both Christmas Day, Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2018, and New Year\u2019s Day, Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019.<\/p>\n

Customers have the ability to plan their trips, buy their passes and find their buses or bus stop through the\u00a0rideRTC<\/a>\u00a0smartphone app. New features to rideRTC now allow customers to report suspicious activity or to incorporate other modes of transportation, like ride-hailing via Uber or Lyft, into their trips. Riders can easily download the free app via the Google Play or Apple app stores. With the app, riders have all the information they need to take public transit where they want \u2013 right at their fingertips.<\/p>\n

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reminds everyone celebrating New Year\u2019s Eve that strollers, backpacks and glass bottles are not allowed on the Las Vegas Strip and that all bags must be 12\u201d x 6\u201d x 12\u201d or smaller.<\/p>\n<\/div>
