As part of National Infrastructure Week, the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) hosted the event bringing together more than 50 vendors, offering 70 conditional onsite hiring opportunities.\u00a0<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\n\u201cI always have high goals set for myself. I expected to find a job here today and be able to start within the next couple of weeks,\u201d said Daniel Gonzalez, who was interviewed and hired as a Transdev Operator. \u201cIt\u2019s definitely a second chance for me and my family,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p><div class=\"video-shortcode\"><iframe class=\"lazyload\" title=\"Careers In Motion 2019\" width=\"1100\" height=\"619\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns%3D%27http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg%27%20width%3D%271100%27%20height%3D%27619%27%20viewBox%3D%270%200%201100%20619%27%3E%3Crect%20width%3D%271100%27%20height%3D%27619%27%20fill-opacity%3D%220%22%2F%3E%3C%2Fsvg%3E\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/OIkGHXcBOxM?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div><\/p>\r\n<p class=\"small\">Business leaders from different sectors within the transportation, engineering, design, and construction industries were on hand to meet with potential employees who will help build the infrastructure of tomorrow. \u201cCareers in Motion is one of the building blocks, I believe, to solving the workforce issue that the construction industry has,\u201d said Guy Martin, President of Martin-Harris Construction. \u201cThis is bringing our needs directly to the community, partnered with RTC and everybody involved, they bring the workforce that we need to one spot.\u201d\u00a0<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\nMartin moderated a panel discussion focused on the needs of the construction industry including workers, funding and diversity. \u201cIf we\u2019re going to come up with ways to meet the needs of each of our communities, we need to have people who have diverse backgrounds, who have lived in those communities, who have experienced those communities and understand the challenges that are faced by those communities,\u201d said Kristina Swallow, Director of the Nevada Department of Transportation and panelist. \u201cThe other piece of it is, why are we excluding, in some cases gender wise, 50-percent of the population? We need to find ways to bring more people to the table. We don\u2019t have enough people today. How do we bring more and diversifying is one way to do that.\u201d<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\nOther panelist included College of Southern Nevada President Dr. Federico Zaragoza, Workforce Connections Executive Director Jaime Cruz, MCON Inc.
