The RTC is honored to host one of only four national summits this week.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p><div class=\"video-shortcode\"><iframe class=\"lazyload\" title=\"Infrastructure Week 2019 - Western Summit\" width=\"1100\" height=\"619\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml,%3Csvg%20xmlns%3D%27http%3A%2F%2Fwww.w3.org%2F2000%2Fsvg%27%20width%3D%271100%27%20height%3D%27619%27%20viewBox%3D%270%200%201100%20619%27%3E%3Crect%20width%3D%271100%27%20height%3D%27619%27%20fill-opacity%3D%220%22%2F%3E%3C%2Fsvg%3E\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/r8eyjmA-YFI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/div><\/p>\r\n<p><br \/>\r\nNevada Governor Steve Sisolak and Nevada Department of Transportation Director Kristina Swallow headlined as opening speakers.<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\n\u201cWe have over $7 billion dollars\u2019 worth of projects under way in Southern Nevada including the UNLV-Raiders stadium, Convention Center expansion, new hotels on the Strip and downtown, and the UNLV School of Medicine,\u201d said Governor Sisolak. \u201cWe continue to grow at an exponential rate, and our growth is outpacing the rest of the nation in job growth.\u201d With a theme of \u201cTechnology and Innovation: The New Infrastructure of Tomorrow,\u201d the Western Summit welcomed nearly 100 attendees, engaging in a panel discussion moderated by RTC Chief Engineering and Technology Officer David Swallow. \u201cI think the panel was great because we talked about the technology. We talked about policy and then we talked about human perspective. All of those are important for us to consider as we talk about new projects,\u201d said Swallow. Panelist included ITS of America President &amp; CEO Shailen Bhatt, Washington State Department of Transportation Secretary Roger Millar, and Arizona State University School for the Future of Innovation in Society, Clinical Associate Professor Dr. Mahmud Farooque.\u00a0<br \/>\r\n<br \/>\r\nU.S. Department of Transportation Deputy Assistant Secretary for Aviation and International Affairs David Short served as the event\u2019s keynote speaker, highlighting the need of transportation infrastructure funding t the federal and local level. \u201cIn an area with this much growth as Southern Nevada, there\u2019s no question that there\u2019s going to be a need with further investment in roads, in public transit, in so many aspects of infrastructure to keep up with the growth,\u201d said Short.
