{"id":10061,"date":"2023-06-28T16:17:59","date_gmt":"2023-06-28T23:17:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rtcsnv.com\/news\/?p=10061"},"modified":"2023-06-28T16:17:59","modified_gmt":"2023-06-28T23:17:59","slug":"rtc-receives-5-86-million-raise-grant-for-charleston-boulevard-transit-upgrade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rtc.staging.snvhost.net\/news\/rtc-receives-5-86-million-raise-grant-for-charleston-boulevard-transit-upgrade\/","title":{"rendered":"RTC receives $5.86 million RAISE grant for Charleston Boulevard transit upgrade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/ctt.ac\/2Q0w5\"><em>Click to Tweet:<\/em><\/a><em> #RTCSNV is receiving a $5.86M RAISE Grant from @USDOT for improved #transit on Charleston Blvd that will enhance safety, equity, and access for the thousands of residents and businesses in the corridor. <\/em><\/p>\r\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>LAS VEGAS<\/strong> \u2013 The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTC) is the recipient of a $5.86 million grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation\u2019s Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) grant program to plan for future high-capacity transit along Charleston Boulevard.<\/p>\r\n<p>\u201cThis is a significant step forward for our region as we work toward improving mobility infrastructure and the safety of all road users for our community,\u201d said RTC Board Chairman and Clark County Commissioner Justin Jones. \u201cWe have our federal delegation to thank for their work in securing this much-needed funding.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p>RAISE Grant funds will be dedicated to completing the planning, alternatives analysis, preliminary engineering, and environmental clearance phases for a 16.9-mile long high-capacity transit line along Charleston Boulevard. The current transit service, Route 206, runs between Downtown Summerlin and the eastern edge of the City of Las Vegas and is the region\u2019s third highest ridership route, making it a prime candidate for an upgrade to high\u2010capacity transit.<\/p>\r\n<p>\u201cCharleston Boulevard is a critically important regional transportation corridor across the heart of the Las Vegas Valley that connects residents to employment opportunities, critical healthcare, social services resources, recreation and more,\u201d said RTC CEO M.J. Maynard. \u201cWe appreciate the continued support from our federal delegation.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p>The proposed project includes dedicated transit travel lanes; bike lanes; wide sidewalks; enhanced transit station areas with more space, lighting, shade, and real-time bus arrival information; streetscape improvements, such as lighting, trees, wayfinding signage, and ADA\u2010accessible crossings; and safety\/traffic management technology. The RTC will work with Clark County, City of Las Vegas, and the Nevada Department of Transportation to develop this project.<\/p>\r\n<p>More than 231,000 residents live within three-fourths of a mile of Charleston Boulevard with nearly 54,000 below poverty level.
