According to the 2020 U.S. Census data, 1 in 4 eligible Americans are not registered to vote. This year, National Voter Registration Day is Tuesday, Sept. 20. It serves as a day when organizations from all over the country help raise awareness about voter registration and provide opportunities to get more Americans involved.

You may be asking yourself, how do I register? We’ve done our research to help you choose which registration method may be right for you. Before you head out or log on, double-check the requirements below to make sure you are eligible.

Nevada Voter Registration Eligibility:

  • Must be a United States citizen
  • Must be at least 17 years old (if preregistering to vote) or at least 18 years old by the date of the election (if registering to vote)
  • Must have continuously resided in their Nevada county at least 30 days before the date of the election
  • Must have continuously resided in their precinct at least 10 days before the date of the election
  • No court has declared you to be mentally incompetent
  • Any individual who has been convicted of a felony and is currently serving a term of imprisonment cannot register to vote or otherwise participate in the voting process while the individual is in prison

Ways to register to vote:

Online

Those interested in registering online from the comfort of their home can visit https://www.nvsos.gov/SOSVoterServices/registration/step0.aspx. This method does require a valid, unexpired Nevada driver’s license, Nevada DMV-issued state ID card, or Nevada DMV interim document.

In Person

If you wish to register in person, you can do so at one of the locations below:

  • The Clark County Election Department
  • Any City Clerk’s office
  • The Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)
  • Any Nevada State Welfare Agency or WIC Office

By Mail

Mail-in applications can be submitted at the following locations:

  • The Clark County Election Department

Be aware! One of the main reasons that Americans do not register to vote is due to missing important deadlines. This year, the deadline for standard registration falls on Tuesday, October 11, 2022.
